OC | Dance

Classical and contemporary dance has long been a passion of OCPM founder Paul Morrissey and is an area in which he first specialised more than 30 years ago. Paul regularly worked with The London Contemporary Dance Theatre treating a range of clients from students through to touring professional dancers. He then worked with the Richard Alston dance company, treating clients at his Surrey-based practice. Paul and his team offer osteopathic treatment and corrective exercise to dancers of all ages and abilities.

Dance Injuries

Dance can place enormous strain on various parts of the body but injury prone areas tend to be:

  • Foot
  • Ankle
  • Lower limbs
  • Lower back
  • Hip

In addition, given the current appetite for modern dance and complex choreography, the OCPM has witnessed a trend towards upper limb and neck injuries.

Injury causes:

Intensive rehearsals, challenging choreography, poor ‘unsprung’ dance floors, and cold environments are among the factors that can contribute to injury. If old problems are not treated comprehensively or correctly, they can reappear. Nutrition is also a factor – the body must be properly nourished to achieve optimum performance.
