OC | Tennis

Both the OCPM clinics are located within easy reach of tennis clubs and it’s perhaps not surprising that we treat a number of club and county standard players. Trauma often develops through overuse of a particular joint or muscle, although injuries can occur when players fail to warm up properly, reach for an awkward shot or trip whilst running for a ball or attempting an overhead. Acute problems occur over months or years when forces and strains, even microscopic, are not given time to heal properly. The old adage that prevention is better than cure is particularly true when it comes to tennis injuries. We offer screening facilities similar to those provided by the ATP for professionals, such as measuring the internal and external rotation range of motion in the shoulder to determine whether or not flexibility is limited.

Tennis injuries:

  • Elbow: Tennis elbow
  • Wrist : Tendonitis, sprains
  • Shoulder: Rotator cuff tendonitis, tears, A/C impingements/separation, gleohumeral arthritis
  • Hip: Labral tears, FAI IT band syndrome
  • Knee: Meniscal tears , strains sprains ligamentous injuries CMP, tendinopathies, degenerative conditions
  • Ankle: Achilles tears, sprains, tendinopathies, plantar fascists, metatasalgia
  • Hamstring: Tears and strains
  • Stress fractures
  • Lower back strain

Periodic reviews with an osteopath or a sports massage with a physiotherapist can help prevent these problems. We can help identify areas of muscle weakness and hyper sensitivity before an injury occurs and advise on the best treatment methods to help you enjoy a symptom and injury free season. Please contact the clinic for more information.

Helpful tips
